Inspirational Quotes
"A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room"
-Lord Baden Powell
Personally, i agree on this quote because i can relate to that quote for every scout/leadership camp i have attended. In theoretical teaching in the meeting room or classroom, students only have lessons based on leadership on character every friday during their CCE lessons. Furthermore, it is usually the teachers who are just getting the students to fill in their response on what they would do based on the given situation.
Although there are some hands-on activities, they are only limited to the walls of the classroom and the duration of the activities are quite short as well and the students are likely to forget everything they have learnt.
Whereas in a camp, the participants are exposed to hands-on activities most of the time, and they are limited to the campsite to do their activities. Besides that, there are also some outdoor situational activities that the participants can participate in, which can help to develop their critical thinking skills, something I feel could not be developed in a classroom area.
"Leaders have the courage to make unpopular decisions and gut call"
-Jack Welch (CEO of General Electric)
This quote is meaningful to me because i can soon relate to this quote. When i'm sec 3 and have to plan the training with my batchmates, not all the training planned out will go well some will be affected with bad weather and some will be affected by bad equipment.
This is when i will have to think quick to think of another back up plan so that we can have an activity with the same learning objective
"A scout smiles and whistles under all circumstances"
-Lord Baden Powell
This quote is meaningful to me because i will always relate to it in my scouting journey and in real life. The quote also has the same meaning of the line in the scout law ‘A scout has courage in all difficulties’
Now that I’m a Sec 3 scout, I will be faced with many difficulties such as having to focus on my studies and to plan for scout meetings every week.
There will definitely be times where I would not be able to cope with both well and may even crumble under pressure. However, if I live up to this quote, I would be able to persevere and pull through the tough times.
-James Gibbons
I feel that as sec 3 leaders, there are no fixed duties that we have other than the usual planning of training. I also feel that leaders would always be open to their fellow juniors, to give them leadership tips or just help in general.
Soon, i would be able to relate to this quote as i would be taking my first mentee and i would be more than happy to try my best to help him whenever he has problems.
"Take a quiet walk with mother nature. It will nurture your mind, body and soul"
-Anthony Douglas Williams
I feel that this quote can be more relatable to me as a sec 3 as now there are many new things that are introduced to me like new subjects, more CCA commitments, etc. Sometimes, to relieve that kind of stress all we have to do is to take a little stroll down the park and the relaxing conditions of the park such as the breeze will allow us to calm down and relax, which will also keep us from being too stressed from our school commitments.
Personally, I have done this before when I had many things in my head due to an upcoming test. After a while, i decided to take a walk at the park nearby. During the walk, I managed to calm down and also think of what to do if I needed help. To me, this is also another reason why I feel that nature should be protected.
