2nd SLC Training
For the second SLC training, we were back into our SLC patrols and we started on our first activity which was the SIT Test. Personally, I feel that an SIT Test (Situational test) is used to assess how well a person can behave or act in a certain situation. For our first scenario, my patrol was asked to go to the pull-up bars, where we had to build a shelter big enough to shelter my entire patrol within the area. After some discussion, we decided to tie both our poles onto the trees beside the pull-up bars and put the tarp over the two poles.
Since the trees were thick, our rope needed extensions in order to complete the knot and we eventually ran out of rope. That was when our venture facil went back to the scout den to take more rope. However, that was not the only thing that was slowing us down as some of us were working slowly and nobody was keeping track of time and before we knew it, the time was up and we did not finish the structure.
Something i learned from this was that communication was important. Throughout the entire 15 minutes, I realized that there wasn't anyone who was keeping track of time and informing us on the time. I also realized that there was not an 'overall IC' elected to ensure that we were on task and thus we were all doing our own thing.
For the second scenario, we were at the slope at the back of school and the scenario was ' your patrol mate dropped your patrol's food and water supplies (in the form of blue poles). It is raining and you have to build a shelter while your patrol mate have to abseil down the slope to collect the food and water supplies.' This time, i decided to step up and be the 'voice' of the activity to ensure everyone is on task and is aware of the time.

After some discussion, we agreed on having Aiden and Alex to do the abseiling while David and I tie the shelter together. For the shelter, we decided to tie two poles to the branches of the tree which would form a triangular formation and after we that, we would tie the tarp on the pole.
At first, everything went fairly smoothly. However, after our food and water supplies were collected, David and I were still not done with the shelter and our facil changed the scenario a little such that aiden could not help out anymore. Although we got a little more help from alex, we still could not finish the shelter on time as the tarp was not tied to the top of the shelter. However, I still felt that our performance was better during this scenario as there was some form of communication but still, there is still room for improvement.
After the SIT test, we were asked to head back to the classroom where we were going to learn more about the Scout Method Framework from our Scout Leader, Mr Benjamin Sho. The Scout Method Framework is designed to guide and encourage each young person along his path of personal growth.
The Scout Method Framework consisted of the following
We were later asked to find out more info about some of the elements of the framework. My patrol was asked to find our more about the element 'patrol system'
Patrol System
-Where scouts are organised in small groups
-Consists of members of different age, background and race.
-How is patrol system applied to the weekly meetings? -Since the patrol consists of members from sec 1 to sec 3, there will be views from different perspectives during activities ( Participant, facilitator, etc) and this can help to build constructive feedback.
The other patrols were also asked to search up on 'Personal Progression' and 'Learning by Doing'
Learning by Doing
-Learning by doing means learning a skill through first hand experience instead of theoretical teaching.
-Examples include teaching the juniors knots and lashings by allowing them to attempt the knots instead of only allowing them to see how the knot is tied.
Personal Progression
-Personal progression is about helping each individual to be consciously and actively involved in their own development.
-It enables them to progress in their own way and at their own pace, to gain confidence and to recognise the progress made.
-Examples include the proficiency badge system: It allows the scouts to discover and learn new skills.
