A camp that I will never forget- Seaboree 2019
It has been a few days since I have attended the ASEAN Seaboree and I have to say that it is one of the best camps I have ever attended in my scouting journey. Throughout this camp, I learned many new skills and made many new friends that I am still in contact with until now. This camp is an experience that I will never forget.
The countries participating in this camp included Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Bangladesh, and many others more and due to the large turnout, we were then split into 4 various subcamps. My subcamp was Royal Fortune and we were further split into 2 groups to facilitate the huge number of activities that were available.
During the course of the camp, it mainly featured sea activities such as kayaking, row boating, sailing and scuba diving. Out of all the activities mentioned, my most favorite ones would be Sailing and Row boating as these two activities really allowed me to work with the overseas scouts and bond with them. What's better was that all of us later got certificates which allowed us to get proficiency badges :)
Us Participating in Row Boating
The theme of the camp was Sustainability, Education, and Adventure as such, we also participated in the Leave No Trace activity, which allowed us to learn about water pollution that is happening in Singapore. This activity also gave me the chance to see how severe it is as I saw all sorts of trash ranging from plastic bags to cans all around the river. However, what really hit me was when I saw a dead turtle on the shore when we were picking up trash. The sight of it made me reflect on my actions and I pledged that I would be more aware of how I dispose of my waste in the future.
Other than the wide array of sea activities that were available, Seaboree also offered all the participants to have free roam around the campsite every night. This was also very important to me as it is the best time to interact with other scouts not only from my subcamp but from others as well. Through this camp, I have made many friends from countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Taiwan.
Friends That I have made.
One of the most memorable moments that I made with the scouts would be having a small party in our bunks. On the last day, all of us would buy the nuggets from the seaboree cafe and share them among ourselves while playing bonding games such as truth or dare.
During this time, many scouts are also out there busy trading scarves and badges and also admiring the collection of other scouts. Personally, although the badges or souvenirs that are traded to me may be quite small in size, it serves as a memento that will allow me to remember the bonds and friendships made between the overseas scouts and me when I look back.
